With the rest of season 6 and the seasons 7 and 8, there is a lot of stories and we know what were some of them. All the scripts for these episodes were written and a lot of these have story reels done.
Season 6 Part 2
– Star Wars Darth Maul – Son of Dathomir
This comics written by Jeremy Barlow is based on scripts by Matt Michnovetz and Aïda Mashaka Croal of unfinished Maul arc from season 6.
The names of the episodes are:
“The Enemy of my Enemy”
“A Tale of Two Apprentices”
“Showdown on Dathomir”
This story does not finish Maul’s story but it gives some answer. We learn about the origins of Maul – he is Mother Talzin’s son !
We also learn why Maul came back. It was all part of Mother Talzin’s plan to take her revenge on Darth Sidious. This story is a lot of villains against villains, an action-packed arc. We see epic duels like Maul vs Grievous – Grievous and Sidious vs Maul and Talzin using Dooku’s body. It also features some huge battles on Zanbar and Ord Mantell – Separatists against Shadow Collective.
The jedi are also part of this adventure – Mace Windu, Aayla Secura, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Tiplee are engaged in a duel against Maul and Dooku. Tiplee’s fate is revealed – she is murdered by Count Dooku.
Another character is getting her fate – it is Mother Talzin. When she broke back Maul into a “saner” form, she used a lot of power making her loose her physical form since then she searched a way to get back her original form. In The Disappeared Part 1 and 2, Mother Talzin was searching to steal the Force out of the Bardotans for unclear reasons, we know now that it was to come back in a physical form. However she finally succeeds her goal in Son of Dathomir by using Count Dooku body’s on Dathomir but she is killed by General Grievous.
We discover a new secret prison of the Separatist on Stygeon Prime which is also seen in Star Wars Rebels 01×04 ‘Rise of the Old Masters’.
Concerning the Shadow Collective, The Hutt clan is reported to have left the Collective at the beginning of the story but the Black Sun and the Pykes remain loyal. Lom Pyke being dead, it is now Fife who leads the Pykes. However after the defeats of the Collective on Zanbar, Ord Mantell, the Mandalorial Asteroid Outpost, their forces are weaken and the separatist army invades the two headquarters of these criminal organization leading the Black Sun and the Pykes to leave the Shadow Collective. So at the end of Son Of Dathomir, only the Death Watch remains loyal to Maul. Gar Saxon and Rook Kast are two new Death Watch members to be introduced in this story.
Here are the concept arts of the unfinished arc that were released on StarWars.com and also a sketch by Dave Filoni:
As you can see the sketch from Dave Filoni features a duel between Quinlan Vos and Darth Maul, this duel was planned in the early drafts of the story but never made it to the scripts as Jeremy Barlow revealed. Another thing is Plo Koon but we don’t see him in the comics. However, commander Wolffe is mentioned to be on Ord Mantell. Jeremy Barlow revealed he cut some parts of the scripts to focus more on the characters. Maybe the Plo Koon/Wolffe scene was cut or maybe it also never made it to the final scripts. One thing we know Barlow cut was the battle of Dathomir, there were much more battle sequences of the Dathomir invasion in “Showndown on Dathomir”.
– The Bounty Hunters arc
This arc is written by Matt Michnovetz and featured many Bounty Hunters teaming up for a special mission – Cad Bane, Embo, Boba Fett, Highsinger, Dengar, Bossk, Aurra Sing, Cato Parasitti, Latts Razzi. There is a scene on Tatooine with Boba and Bane meeting a Tusken Raider Shaman. We also know that Cad Bane had a new ship. But we don’t know much more of this arc. So here’s the concept arts and sketches of Filoni from the Bounty Hunter arc :
a story reel clip from this arc :
Star Wars Celebration 2017 revealed another clip that featured a showdown between Cad Bane and Boba Fett. Revealing how Boba Fett got his helmet damaged. The clip leaves us with one huge question, did Cad Bane survive?
– Ahsoka’s Walkabout
In season 6 there was going to be an Ahsoka arc after she left the Jedi Order, trying to live a normal life on Coruscant. In these episodes, we would have seen space waffles that were reused in Star Wars Rebels. Ahsoka was going to get a new outfit. Filoni wanted something Jedi-like for it but not totally that. Here are some concept arts from this arc:
A story reel clip from Ahsoka :
During Star Wars Celebration 2016, a lot of her untold episodes was revealed with a panel dedicated to Ahsoka. She was going to encounter a new character, an Asian scoundrel named Nix (seen in the clip above). Nix was a character who didn’t like Jedi as he was from the lower levels of Coruscant and thus Ahsoka kept her Jedi past secret to him. Filoni suggested Nix might have been her boyfriend in these episodes.
– The Bad Batch arc
The names of the episodes are :
“The Bad Batch”
“A Distant Echo”
“On the Wings of Keeridaks”
This was going to be the season 7 premiere. Brent Friedman wrote the arc. These 4 episodes features Captain Rex leading a group of experimental clone commandos called the Bad Batch. Echo is part of this arc, Echo the clone we thought was dead on Lola Sayu during the Citadel arc of season 3. Anakin and Obi-Wan are also a little bit in this arc. The action is set on Anaxes and Skako Minor – two new planets.
Fortunately, like the Utapau episodes, we can watch the Bad Batch episodes online.
Fort Anaxes seen in Star Wars Rebels is apparently the same Anexes from this arc so we can get a look at what Anaxes looks like :
You can see how was going to look like Echo thanks to a sketch of Dave Filoni :
Some details about it :
– Jesse is now an ARC Trooper
– The Clone Force 99 also called the Bad Batch has four members – Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Cross Hair
– Admiral Trench dies at the end of the fourth episode killed by Anakin
– We get to see the Techno Union droids (and they can fly!) on Skako Minor and other Techno Union members
– The battle of Anaxes is intense and probably one of the biggest from the series – the 501st Legion is here, the 212th Attack Battalion, Mace Windu’s clones. The 501st Jetpack clones seen in season 5 episode 17 “Sabotage” are back on this arc !
– Echo comes back at the end of the second episode
For a complete summary and review of this arc you can go here.
The fortune cookies of these episodes are :
“The Battles are over but the heroes live on. Thank you The Clone Wars Fans.”
“Wars are not won with superior weapons, but with superior strategy.”
“In war there is no such thing as neutrality.”
“Learn from the past but live for the future.”
The concept arts from the Bad Batch arc:
– The Yoda/Kashyyyk arc
This arc functions like a continuation of the Bad Batch arc. We know that Tarful and Chewbacca were there and this one featured Yoda in a cool way according to Brent Friedman :
We know that it is Matt Michnovetz who wrote it :
Filoni at Celebration Europe in 2013 had revealed a story reel clip of this arc showing the Bad Batch in action and some impressive creatures:
There are also some sketches of Filoni of this arc:
There was also going to be a Republic hover boat in these episodes, here’s the concept art:
– The Anakin and Obi-Wan Utapau arc
This arc is the four story reel (unfinished animation) that were released on StarWars.com and that are on the blu-ray of the Lost Missions. Even if the animation is unfinished the voice were fully recorded. The name of the episodes are:
“A Death on Utapau”
“In Search of the Crystal”
“The Big Bang”
They were written by Daniel Arkin.
This arc is set on Utapau (the planet we see in Revenge of the Sith) and its main characters are Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’s a kind and fun story. Anakin and Obi-Wan are send on Utapau after a mysterious death of a jedi and during their investigation they find out that the Sugi (species) are going to sell a giant Kyber Crystal to Count Dooku so they must take this Crystal before Dooku does. Anakin and Obi-Wan get their sculpt/model udapted, they’re like they are in Revenge of the Sith but the other jedi still have their old sculpt/model.
In “In Search of the Crystal”, there is very powerful and emotional scene between Anakin and Obi-Wan about Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order. This was an important scene because this scene deals with Anakin’s reaction to the departure of Ahsoka and he does not take it very well. He is angry about the Jedi Council who turned their back when Ahsoka was suspected. He is also angry at Ahsoka because for him she made a mistake even though Obi-Wan reminded him that it was not his fault but it was Ahsoka’s decision. Anakin then asks the question if he had been a major disappointment how Obi-Wan would have felt and Obi-Wan answers that Anakin will never fail him, this foreshadows the fall of Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.
The giant Kyber Crystal is a dangerous weapon absorbing the energy to make it very deadly at the end of the arc Yoda explains these Crystals were used in the Old Republic for very dangerous weapons of an unimaginable power. It is with no doubt that we can assume such kind of Krystals were used for the Death Star. The Crystal of this arc being at the hands of the separatists in the end of the story, Anakin and Obi-Wan have no choice but to destroy it producing an explosion like the explosion of the Death Star.
This episode also features Anakin using … blasters ! Yes, blasters and he is very good at shooting droids ! “In Search of the Crystal” we witness a scene where Anakin takes down a group of Sugi with two blasters at the same time. A great moment of action and fun !
We are also introduced to the Sugi a new species working with the Armani (first seen in Return of the Jedi) who live on Utapau. The Sugi are the ones who found the Crystal.
This arc is a tribute to the Original Trilogy with references/easter eggs to it. When Grievous ship is pushed in the space, we immediately think about Vader’s starfighter pushed by the explosion of the Death Star in A New Hope. The funny dialogues between the characters that gives some light to the story are here to remind us of the Original Trilogy. This adventure itself is also an Orginal Trilogy adventure-like.
As mentioned just before there are funny dialogues and a even a lot ! During “A Death On Utapau” Anakin and Obi-Wan are fighting Magnaguards and they are supposed to keep on alive but Anakin destroys his own and pronounces “Ooops I broke it.” We also have the scene in “In Search of the Crystal” when Anakin and Obi-Wan to make the Sugi believe they also are here to buy the Crystal. Another scene from the same episode is where a Sugi is looking at Anakin’s lightsaber and Anakin uses the Force to kill that Sugi. Anakin uses this technic again later in the episode. In “The Big Bang” we can see some mindless droids or half of them ! A pair of legs walking while its upper body is following and another pair of legs walking in the command center of the separatist ship We also have Obi-Wan and his Yavin Code. Anakin has the majority of the funny lines.
You can see the concept arts and sketches of this arc here:
As you can notice there is a concept art of Deepa Billaba (seen in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones at the Jedi Council) and one of the lightsaber of Oppo Rancisis (he has a green blade as you can see it’s noted on the concept art), these two characters were supposed to appear in this arc but were later cut from the final version.
– Mon Cala arc
We know very little about this one except from the sketches of Filoni that it featured King Lee Char, Tundra Dowmeia, Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker. Also according to Pablo Hidalgo, the Padmé arc and Mon Cala arc are the same so I gathered the two together (thanks to Andrew Halaby for alerting me).
and this is what Filoni said about it at Star Wars Celebration II when this drawing was first revealed :
– Dark Disciple
This novel is written by Christie Golden and has been released in July 2015. This one is based on the Asajj Ventress/Quinlan Vos arc from season 7, the scripts were written by Matt Michnovetz, Katie Lucas & Dave Filoni. This story is very dark and very adult. It also features Grievous. We have the official synopsis of the novel :
When the Jedi decide to target Count Dooku—Darth Tyranus—himself, they turn to his ex-apprentice, Asajj Ventress, for help in getting close to the slippery Sith Lord. But when unexpected sparks fly between Ventress and Quinlan Vos, the unorthodox Jedi sent to work with her, the mission becomes a web of betrayal, alliances, secrets, and dark plotting that might just be the undoing of both Jedi and Sith—and everything in between!
We know that the novel is based on 8 episodes, the writer confirmed it. So 8 episodes mean two arcs :
Thanks to the star wars celebration we learned that these 8 episodes also included Boba Fett and bounty hunters trying to kill Dooku ( a clip was shown of story reel during the panel).
For a complete summary of the novel you can see it my review here.
We have some additional information thanks to the sketches and concept arts :
We see the planets Raxus (capital of the Separatist), Mustafar and Pantora (planet of Riyo Chuchi) again ! As you can see Quinlan Vos as an all new look and so does Ventress. She has hair, and a new orange lightsaber plus a nightsister bow ! There will be a Ball scene as indicates one of the concept arts. And isn’t the sketch from Filoni a bit of spoiler ? – Quinlan carrying an unconscious or dead Ventress !
A story reel clip on Pantora when Ventress meets Quinlan Vos :
and another of the bounty hunters vs. Dooku :
I heard on a Star Wars Forum about a Pykes arc which Stephen Stanton had recorded so I asked him the question on Twitter, he favorited my tweet so I don’t know if there is indeed a Pykes arc or not but the fact that he did favorite the tweet could be a clue that he indeed recorded an arc about the Pykes.
UPDATE on the Pykes arc: it seems that the Pykes arc was included in Dark Disciple, when you read the book you’ll get that feeling during the Oba Dia/Mustafar mission.
– Return to the Jedi
This was another Ahsoka arc in which she was going back to the surface of Coruscant when “an unmentioned enemy puts Yoda in danger.” She was going to have another really different outfit. Reminiscent of what Ventress had later in the series.
Filoni revealed at Celebration 2016 that she would have gone to the core level of Coruscant before going back and that she was pretty close from fighting Darth Sidious!
Concept art of ruins beneath the Jedi Temple from past worshippers of the Force and possibly a Sith Temple :
Something important to note is that she was neither going back in the Order nor becoming a Jedi again.
– Rex and R2-D2 arc
This arc is said to be like Terminator the movie in how this adventure can be described. Here are some information of this arc written by Brent Friedman:
And it was also a four-episode arc as confirmed by Brent Friedman:
Filoni described the arc as a Top Gun arc. Here’s a concept art :
– The Siege of Mandalore
This arc was written by Matt Michnovetz and was going to be the series finale of the series. It would have featured Ahsoka Tano … working with Bo-Katan ! As Son of Dathomir mentions there is a resistance on Mandalore, Bo-Katan probably being the leader of the resistance. We notice in the sketch of Filoni that the other jedi get their model update like they are in Revenge of the Sith. We know now that Rex is also involved in the siege of Mandalore (as he says it in Star Wars Rebels ‘The Lost Commanders’)
This sketch from Filoni of Maul is from the same arc. So Maul was also going to be part of this story !
Brent Friedman also said this about this arc:
This arc would have featured a reunion between Anakin and Ahsoka along with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ahsoka was going to meet them in person to help them as they realized Maul was back on Mandalore. During their reunion, Anakin was going to tell her how proud he was of her. However, Yoda was going to interrupt them, calling Anakin and Obi-Wan back on Coruscant as the city was under siege and the Chancellor had been captured, leading to the events of the Revenge of the Sith.
Anakin was going to left a battalion of clone lead by Rex with Ahsoka for the fight on Mandalore.
This was the sketch for clones of the 332nd having colored marks in honor of Ahsoka:
They had thought about having the Vongs in some episodes but we don’t know more about it:
Vong concept arts :
This is everything we know about the 2.5 remaining seasons but there are sure other stories we are not aware of !
