Today, I’m going to talk about the promoting of Star Wars The Force Awakens in France because it’s quite massive comparing to how the promotion of the previous Star Wars movies was done in our country. Disney seems to have invested a lot of money for TFA in France. For the first time in France, you can there is an advance ticket sales for SW and they launched the official SW French website from where you can buy the tickets, this never happened before in France, it’s a first time. You can go to the official FR website here. The tickets are selling very well, it’s a real success! Doing this required most of the cinemas from France to already plan the time of showings for the movie months in advance. Just one detail I noticed there are no midnight premieres for TFA (at least from Paris and the major big cities unless the advance tickets for midnight showings will be available later but it seems unlikely as I got answers from some cinemas saying they won’t do midnight premieres) while for Revenge of the Sith in 2005 there were midnight showings almost in every cities.
Then there are the Galeries Lafayette having Star Wars as a special guest this year heavily promoting TFA, I talked about it yesterday Disney reached a deal recently with the Galeries for this and the opening of the biggest Disney Store also promoting TFA.
The big retailers from France promotes TFA too, yes and heavily! The E Leclerc stores are giving SW tokens (cosmic shells) when you do the grocery shopping at their stores, the tokens cover vehicles and characters from the 7 movies and TFA is the star of their magazine reminding you where you have to be on December 16th (= in cinemas seeing The Force Awakens). In their stores, there are some SW decorations too! Carrefour stores also have their share, they have exclusive toys (while before in France there were only exclusives at Toys R’ Us) and depending on which Carrefour you go, some put SW exclusives on the front with some decorations too.
The posters and banners for TFA are not yet on the bus and walls of France as there are the movies ‘Spectre’ and ‘The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2’ coming up before so that’s what is promoted there first but after November 18th you can be sure everywhere in the streets Star Wars will be there. For now, the only banners you can see are on the building of the Galeries Lafayette.
