We knew a new animated project was coming involving Jennifer Muro but we had no idea what it was and now we know! It’s a new animated micro-series that will be highlighting female heroes. Star Wars Forces of Destiny is a 2-D animated series that will debut in July on Disney Youtube with eight shorts followed this Fall by eight others on Disney Channel, aired in a form of TV Specials. These shorts will be 2-3 minutes long each. Jennifer Muro penned these episodes directed by Brad Rau (he directed some Star Wars Rebels episodes). Dave Filoni is also involved in the project as he is supervising all the projects in the Lucasfilm Animation department.

EW has the list of the familiar faces we will be seeing and it’s from all eras! Padmé Amidala is back, voiced by Catherine Taber (who voiced her in The Clone Wars), Leia is voiced by Shelby Young. And many of the original actresses are coming back to voice their characters too – Daisy Ridley is back to voice Rey, Felicity Jones reprises her role of Jyn Erso, Vanessa Marshall – Hera Syndulla and Tiya Sircar – Sabine Wren. Lupita Nyong’o is also back, she will be narrating the shorts as Maz Kanata.

For Rey the stories will take place within The Force Awakens not before and not after and for Jyn before Rogue One.

Friday during the “Heroines of Star Wars” panel at Star Wars Celebration, people will get a special preview of the series with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck (Lucasfilm’s vice president of animation).

The official Star Wars website announced merchandise for the show is coming including “adventure figures” by Hasbro and books!
