Rian Johnson Talks About The Last Jedi At Fan Event In Japan

Rian Johnson in Tokyo, Japan today for a fan event about The Last Jedi. While, there were no new footage of the movie shown, he revealed a few interesting things.

First, Johnson said that the movie was almost done, when he returns to Los Angeles, he’ll just have a few more days to work on it.

As some may have suspected it, Joseph Gordon Levitt will be in The Last Jedi as a voice actor. He will be voicing an alien, it’ll be exciting to try to hear him in the movie!

My very good friend, the actor Joseph Gordan-Levitt, who was in a movie I made called Looper, he does a cameo as a voice of an alien in the film. So, it’s a very brief little thing, but it’s fun and if you watch the movie maybe you’ll be able to hear and pick out Joe’s voice in the movie.

Rian finally talked about Episode IX a little bit. He obviously didn’t deny nor confirm the rumours that he is in the top candidate list to direct the final installment of the sequel trilogy, if he does direct the movie, the news would be given in a proper announcement on the official site. What Rian said suggest he hasn’t been approached to direct the movie, at least for now. But what he says doesn’t seem like he is going to direct it.

It was never in the plan for me to direct Episode IX, so I don’t know what’s going to happen with it. For me, I was entirely focused on Episode VIII and having this experience and now I’m just thinking of putting the movie out there and seeing how audiences respond to it. So no, I’m not really thinking about that now. Whoever does it, I’m going to be really excited to be an audience member again. And to sit down and see what the next filmmaker has to show us and where this story ends up going.
