Star Wars Rebels: Only 15 Episodes For The Final Season

There is a press conference at Star Wars Celebration for Star Wars Rebels and it’s just been revealed that season 4 will only consist of 15 episodes. It will be longer than season 1 but shorter than season 2 and 3. So we can expect things to go fast in this final season!

Star Wars Rebels Final Season Trailer

It is now official, season 4 is the last season of Star Wars Rebels, Dave Filoni made the announcement during the panel at Star Wars Celebration. All things must come to an end one day and it’s time for Rebels. This season will surely deliver great things and give us a beautiful conclusion to this series and it’s ending on Filoni’s own terms not like it was for The Clone Wars.

During the panel, a trailer for the final season was revealed and it’s amazing! You can watch it below:

Saw Gerrera is back with his look much more closer to how he is in Rogue One. As we knew it already Bo-Katan will be appearing this season in the Mandalorians episodes, which promise to be epic! Kallus is getting a new look, rebel costume! The X-Wing will also show up along with the rebel base on Yavin. Thrawn is there again. We will be heading back to Lothal but other planets too. The U-Wings are also finally showing up in the series. There is so many things in this trailer!

The panel itself also gave new details concerning the season!
As we knew it already, Mon Mothma will be back and they showed a picture of her on Yavin base!

Along with Saw, another character from Rogue One is appearing – his friend Edrio Two Tubes:

Warwick Davis is joining the cast to voice Ruhk/Rook, Thrawn’s bodyguard:

Star Wars Rebels: First Look At Captain Rex In Season 4

While the Star Wars Rebels panel of season 4 is Saturday, a panel about Star Wars animation today at Celebration teased some things for season 4. First, we got the concept arts for Rex’s gear in season 4. He is going full on rebel gear and if you look at it, it seems to confirm that the rebel from ROTJ being Rex is becoming true. Filoni had said last year that he loved that theory and that he would make everything he could to make it happen, seems like he actually did. That concept art looks just like that rebel! During that panel, Filoni hinted at the return of Gregor and Wolffe for season 4.

Rumors On The Upcoming Lucasfilm’s Projects

SWNN has a source who told them about the upcoming projects from Lucasfilm after the Sequel trilogy and the Han Solo spinoff and it sure does look promising!

Before getting excited just keep in mind that this hasn’t been confirmed by Lucasfilm and it is just a rumor until confirmed. However, considering where it comes from, it’s very likely to be legit.

There are at least three spinoffs in development after the Han Solo one.

– Obi-Wan Kenobi
This one has long been rumored and Ewan McGregor has been very vocal about doing a Obi-Wan spinoff. This wouldn’t come before 2020 of course but it is definitely the one I am more excited about especially who they have in mind to direct it. Here’s what their source had to say about it:
“Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of Lucasfilm fully intend to make an Obi-Wan movie set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, with Ewan McGregor in tow. I want to emphasize that it’s a movie, singular – not a trilogy. Rogue One’s Gareth Edwards could be returning to the director’s chair, as Kathleen Kennedy was happy with his work on that film. The team of producers and writers are going to be different than Rogue One. An announcement of an Obi-Wan movie might just be one of the big surprises at Celebration Orlando. This possibility is supported by the existence of a few materials that were made in conjunction with the event.”
Gareth Edwards understands perfectly the Star Wars universe, he proved it with Rogue One. He gave us something that could have totally been something Lucas would have done. And if it is indeed announced at Celebration, I would bet either on the 40th Anniversary panel or the closing ceremony, we will have to see how it goes.

– Boba Fett & the Bounty Hunters
This one was more than a rumor, Josh Trank was supposed to direct it and announce it at Anaheim Celebration in 2015 before he ended up exiting the project, but it seems it is not cancelled after all.
“Rest assured, the Boba Fett movie is not dead. As far as I can tell, the movie will most likely not be an origin story. It’s not strictly a Boba Fett movie, but a film about an ensemble of bounty hunters on an adventure. It sounds as though Fett is just one important component to the movie as opposed to the central character. The project is basically going to use the same pitch that it would have had if Trank had directed it. A script was not even ready at the point where Trank would have talked about his movie at Celebration Anaheim, the project has received further development thanks to Kinberg’s efforts.”

– A Romance
The last one is supposed to be a romance kind of movie like the “Lost Stars” book written by Claudia Gray (highly recommended).
“This Star Wars project is going to target the young-adult audience and have slight romantic themes to it. Said story is a tragedy…the “love story” angle has more in common with Han & Leia’s romance in The Empire Strikes Back than anything else. This is the first major step toward getting a Star Wars movie that’s directed by a woman. This is the first major step toward getting a Star Wars movie that’s directed by a woman.”

There is more of course than just these three movies. Television will also be a big medium for Star Wars:
“Star Wars on television is going to become a big focus over the next few years. The new series might be more in-tune with the existing story arcs of the Star Wars saga instead of “filling in gaps” like The Clone Wars and Rebels have.”
Since August, we knew a new project was coming and that Dave Filoni had also been promoted as head of creative development for the animation department meaning more than just one project was coming. They definitely will use this medium a lot.

Another interesting thing to notice is it seems like there will be a hiatus in the movies at one point according to the source:
“There seems to be a plan for a hiatus on Star Wars movies – a plan that will happen after a few years after the end of the Sequel Trilogy.”
And the last bit of information was also a given, a fourth trilogy would be coming but not just yet:
“Since Star Wars is a generational thing, there will be a gap between the Sequel Trilogy’s end and the new trilogy’s arrival.”

[Review] Star Wars Rebels Season Finale “Zero Hour”

The third season of Star Wars Rebels finally came to an end with the double episode “Zero Hour.” The first part was written by Steven Melching and the second part by Matt Michnovetz and Henry Gilroy.

Everything happening with Thrawn this season lead to this moment. He learned the rebels strategies, he took his time to understand them. We saw him as someone who is a very good strategist and his plan was finally unleashed during the season finale – he found the Rebel base of Atollon and launched his assault.

The beginning of the episode featured Tarkin once again, I always love seeing him on the show and Stephen Stanton always does an amazing work voicing him! Thrawn showed once again in that scene that he had everything under control – he trapped Kallus and was able to get the location of the rebel base and send his fleet. The fight Kallus and Thrawn was short but nice, badass Thrawn is good!

General Dodonna and his fleet (called the Massassi group, Massassi being the old species from Yavin. So his fleet was the Yavin fleet. It was the fleet he was in charge of and as we learned at this time of the Rebellion, it was one of the biggest fleet they had) went to Atollon and got trapped with Phoenix squadron in this battle against Thrawn. His fleet contained Medical frigates, Dorneans frigates, blockade runners, Hammerhead corvettes and transports. The Atollon battle was surely awesome! It started with a space battle then it went on the ground and finished in space. It was highly explosive and may I say epic! Thrawn brought Imperial cruisers and two Interdictor cruisers, first seen in season 2 with the episode “Stealth Strike.” These cruisers avoid ships from going into hyperspace. So, the rebels were trapped like mouses on Atollon. The rebel fleet was slaughtered quite fast despite having Y-Wings and A-Wings to defend them, it wasn’t enough. They were just outnumbered. All the medical frigates were lost during the first part of the battle forcing Dodonna to evacuate his ship and get to the escape pods. It’s in the first part of the battle that the death of two characters happened. Commander Sato sacrificed himself to allow Ezra to open a window to jump into hyperspace to call for reinforcements. Sato’s sacrifice destroyed one of the Interdictors and took the life of Admiral Konstantine with it. In his final moments, Konstantine showed once again how incompetent he was, disobeying Thrawn’s orders and leading to his own death.

The second part of the battle took place on the ground with the rebels fighting the imperial forces – AT-DP, AT-AT, stormtroopers and even Death Troopers. Thrawn was escorted by Death Troopers on the ground. Thus far, we thought these troopers were only for Krennic but it seems they are also working for other high officers. I liked seeing them again, they were my favorite troopers from Rogue One but I would have liked to see the Death Trooper with specialists gear not just the normal ones. This time, they were not as efficient, they had to fight the Bendu. Kanan was able to bring the Bendu into the fight after a long talk but it seemed he didn’t target only the Empire, he also attacked with lightning the rebel ships though, it was the Empire that suffered the most from it. The Bendu was way more powerful than we thought, he brought storm on the planet. However, why he is on Atollon, why he helped Kanan and Ezra this season remains a big mystery. This episode didn’t enlighten anything about the Bendu except showing what he was capable of. He reminds me of Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, he is that being who is beyond our comprehension and we are beyond his as well. There is an interesting thing he said to Thrawn before disappearing. He foresaw Thrawn’s fall and what he said makes me think Thrawn may not die from a rebel shot but more like a force choke by Darth Vader. This is just speculation but it is the way I understood it.

The third part of the battle featured the Mandalorians and Sabine who came to the rescue after Ezra called for help. Fenn Rau was part of the team with his starfighter. The Mandalorians got some in space combat to destroy the last Interdictor. Ezra wore a space suit which was very much like the one Anakin had in The Lost Missions (season 6) from The Clone Wars. That last part was very good and concluded the battle with a big defeat for the rebels despite being able to escape with a few ships. Kallus was also able to escape and was picked up by the Ghost.

During the battle, each character had their moment of fighting including Rex, he was actually there a lot in this episode and that I couldn’t have been more happy about it!

Mon Mothma was in this episode as well. We only saw her in hologram. Ezra contacted her for reinforcements, which she couldn’t provide. She mentioned Bail and said he was right that they weren’t ready for open warfare against the Empire. I think with season 4, there will be a step back in what the rebels do after this huge defeat. They have lost Dodonna’s fleet which was quite big and they are far from ready, they still have more things to accomplish before reaching how the Rebellion is during Rogue One.

The animation team once again used Hasbro toys for the series. We saw blue and red Y-Wings, which is something Hasbro had made in 2004 in their Original Trilogy line. I own this version of the Y-Wing so I was really happy that it finally made to the screen. We were introduced to green Y-Wings as well.

With what is said at the end of the episode, we will definitely see the rebel headquarters on Yavin in season 4, which is something I look forward to see. And Grand Admiral Thrawn is still alive so he will likely be there again and I can’t wait to see more of him, I loved the character this season, a great villain!

8.8/10 Overall, this season finale wasn’t as emotional as the season 1 and 2 finales but it’s understandable. Season 1 ended with the return of Ahsoka and Darth Vader. Season 2 ended with a huge episode that included a Ahsoka vs Darth Vader duel. It was obviously going to be difficult to top that. But this season 3 finale was amazing nevertheless, the battle was intense and epic, I loved it! It was a good conclusion to the season and I am looking forward to see what comes next now!

A sneak peek of season 4 will be shown at Star Wars Celebration Orlando on April 15, there will be a live stream of this panel so people who don’t attend the event will still be able to see this first look at the next season, you can look for the details here.
